Kathleen Simon was born and raised in New Orleans and has been practicing law since 1986. She joined the firm in 2002 and is a partner practicing in the firm’s Covington office. Prior to joining Porteous, Hainkel & Johnson, Ms. Simon practiced insurance defense in New Orleans and Covington for 15 years. She has extensive trial experience in Louisiana state courts representing insurance carriers and their insureds. Over the years her practice has focused on defense of insurance companies in personal injury, insurance coverage issues, premises liability, products liability, animal and property law, special investigation/fraud and bad faith/extra contractual cases.
She has successfully tried cases to both judges and juries in state courts throughout southeast Louisiana and has negotiated hundreds of cases to successful conclusion. As an appellate lawyer, Kathleen has argued cases in the Louisiana First, Fourth and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal and briefed cases pending in the Louisiana Supreme Court, Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal and United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Simon has been a member of the faculty of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy for more than 10 years and served on the Board of Directors since 2004. She lectures at continuing legal education programs and is actively involved in community affairs. She is a member of the Academy of the Sacred Heart (New Orleans) Alumnae Association and served as a board member since 1995. She is a member of the Associated Alumnae of the Sacred Heart and is involved on both the national and international levels.
Kathleen serves as a hearing officer and committee chairman for the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board for the Louisiana State Bar Association and in 2010 was reappointed for another 5 year term. She has been active with the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel (LADC) for more than 20 years and has served on the Board of Directors in the past.
